August 13th, 1883

“August 13th,

Having made an appointment with Isabella’s to meet them at noon at the bathing establishment, we went there by boat and very soon after we were in the water, they arrived and joined us. Sarina swims very well, even without the assistance of bladders, but Rosolina was more timid and stayed mostly with me. Papa swam amongst us and enjoyed himself most, he being very fond of those people. Then we all returned on board and kept them for dinner, after which we accompanied them home. In the evening Mrs. Isabella and Rosolina went with us to buy some gloves and also some cuffs for papa. At 8 o’clock we left them and papa took us to the circus again, where we were much amused with the performance. The last was a pantomime representing the massacre of the Europeans in Alexandria, the bombardment and the capture of Arabi Pasha. There were English Redcoats, Blue Jackets and Admiral Seymour and General Wolseley. There was also a little ballet. In fact we were much pleased when we retired on board.”
