Death of Invalid Son & Mr. Ransom

“During the years just recorded Mr. Ransom had come more closely into my life. I say more closely because it was the outcome of our acquaintance made previously on shipboard during my first trip to Europe on which trip I was taken by my Aunt Annie Bruce as companion and helpmate, in her care of her invalid son, Robert. Mr. Ransom remained but a short time in London, his being merely a business trip in interest of his firm in New York. The nine long months of Aunties and my stay in London failing in their mission. Medical advice sent us to Cannes in Southern France but then the dear boy died aged 27. It was a sad homegoing and arrival with our silent loved one but still another sadness awaited us and the stricken father, when, three weeks later, the young son of 21 years was taken ill. And before the flowers had been removed from Robert’s grave in Greenwood Cemetery, Johnnie was laid by his side.”
